Siusan Patterson (She/Her) is a visual artist from Northern Ireland now based in Scotland. She graduated from Glasgow School of Art with a BA(Hons) in Painting and Printmaking in 2019. She creates large scale figurative paintings, digital collages, prints and sculptures that employ multiple flat layers in bold, bright colours, to observe the diversity of female bodies. Siusan’s body-positive images portray unidealised, real subjects in intimate moments. She explores the female body through a female lens, employing a disquieting humour that reflects on the response of some women, confronted by the somewhat unrealistic and unattainable expectations placed on them, to reclaim and celebrate more realistic representations. Incorporating colourful hair, textiles and accessories, her work plays with perceptions of female identity. Siusan intertwines historical references from Renaissance paintings with mythology to reinterpret female nudes through the female lens reclaiming creating alternative female narratives that have a sense of empowerment.

Siusan is the recipient of the Royal Scottish Academy 195th Annual exhibition SABA award 2021. She has exhibited her work extensively in London and Glasgow and was selected for the AON Community Award as part of her degree show with the work exhibited in London’s iconic Leadenhall Building. She is a co-director of SaltSpace Coop CIC, a non-profit organisation in Glasgow which provides a platform for graduates and emerging artists in Scotland.

Siusan Patterson lives and works in Glasgow and Crieff, Perthshire.
