ABOUT
For the first time in VAS history an online submission process has enabled the most ambitious, intriguing and innovative submissions from our membership, and from long time and first time open exhibitors. The selection panel called upon the open submission artists to submit contemporary art and design works which consider and challenge the boundaries between fine art, design and applied arts. Artists, designers and makers were urged to consider how their submissions might command the gallery space or be juxtaposed with other art forms and media by the curators to challenge the conventions of mixed exhibition displays.
We received 1335 individual entries of works from around 600 artists, designers and makers from across the British Isles. This is an amazing response with many embracing the challenge we set for this exhibition with some truly ambitious and thought provoking works. We hope we have done justice to the myriad of genres and visions submitted from our initial selection of less than 300 works.
