Anke-Beate Stahl is known for her abstract colourfield paintings. Fascinated by the interaction of colour, she uses her palette to create the illusion of three-dimensional space in the absence of tangible subjects and spaces. In their place, the careful positioning of hues and shades create conversations of harmony and dissonance on the canvas. Stahl's large oil paintings show depth and create a transcendent sense of light. The works' simplicity of composition and their intensity of colour draw in the viewer and invite them to immerse themselves fully in the paintings.
Anke-Beate Stahl studied Fine Art at Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig, now Braunschweig University of Art, in Germany. She holds a postgraduate degree, Meisterschülerin, in painting.
She has exhibited her works internationally as well as in Scotland. After a spell in Berlin, she moved permanently to Scotland and now lives and works in the heart of Edinburgh.
