Fouzia Zafar’s work explores the concept of play to develop the use of unusual materials, tools and processes to create images.
She often makes images of objects and places that hold memories for her. Photography and collage are often intermediate stages in the practice where play allows images to be deconstructed and then reinvented using the etching process. Fouzia’s practice thrives on pushing the craft of making but also embracing what it offers by chance.
Fouzia’s recent prints are based on the Arlington Baths and Kelvingrove Park, both local Glasgow landmarks that hold memories for the artist through several generations. Shape, pattern and texture are celebrated in these prints, helping explore the histories these places hold and to create a nostalgic atmosphere.
