After a period of experimentation with intuitive writing, I felt inspired to try a similar approach in drawing and painting: I run a brush over the canvas without allowing pause or hesitation. Eventually something will emerge, suggestions of forms, creatures or things, and I then turn to develop them further.
The results of this approach can be disturbing and sometimes funny. It plays out like a game - with the aim of outwitting myself. An image presents itself without warning, and I willingly believe its testimony. Like an alter ego, it says things in its own way, and I appreciate it while being spared from saying them myself.
