I am a recent graduate textile designer based just outside Edinburgh and originally from a wee village in the Southwest of Scotland.
The countryside that surrounds me takes key inspiration for the work I create. Fine-line, delicate illustrations of the flowers from the walks in the fields as a kid or the trees in the woods near to my home etc. all play a part in my work.
Each element of a design starts as a hand-drawn illustration in my sketchbook and then they are transformed into unique fabric designs, and some become beautifully made accessories and homeware products for your home. Currently working using digital printing methods with the hope to get back to screenprinting - once the garage/studio has been cleared.
All homeware products are made in the UK either by myself or by other UK-based makers, and businesses that I have sourced to ensure high quality products that help to highlight the beautiful details in my designs. Fabric designs can also be purchased in lengths of fabrics for your own home projects in a small selection of natural fibre fabrics.
Where possible, all packaging used is recycled or compostable/recyclable, and homeware products are generally made to order or in small quantities to help reduce waste. Any fabric scraps that may occur are kept and used for smaller projects like key charms, and bookmarks etc.
I hope to bring a wee bit of the countryside and the comfort and textures that textiles bring into our homes.
Having been working in administration and operations roles previously I had a want to return back to school and study art.
It was something I still enjoyed, but never thought I would have been able to make a career in. Therefore, in 2017 I returned back to school to study UAL Art and Design that kicked started my want to study textiles design.
I graduated in 2022 1st Class Hons BA Design for Textiles at Heriot Watt University, Galashiels. Whilst studying I was awarded:
- Commendation from The Bradford Textile Society (2020),
- The Worshipful Company of Dyers of City of London Award for 3rd year Prize (2021),
- The Scottish Borders Manufacture Corporation Prize (2021), - The Incorporation of Bonnetmakers and Dyers of Glasgow Prize (2022), and
- The Dr Oliver Medal, awarded to the best overall final year student on the BA Design for Textiles course (2022)
Since graduating I have had the opportunity to exhibit at:
- New Designers, 2022
- New Talent, Surface Design Show, 2024
