I am a South African artist, based in Edinburgh, Scotland. I use a variety of mediums to capture the natural beauty of landscapes, translating it into art on paper and canvas. I am inspired by African landscapes, and more recently, the Highlands of Scotland. I usually work with watercolours but have started exploring working in oils and doing plein air painting. When I paint, I want to convey the feeling of a place and use a variety of mark making techniques to illustrate the visible textures and colours. I wish to offer the viewer an experience of being transported to an imaginary place. Some of my work leans itself to being more abstract, connecting to that which is felt, and not seen.
Lezanne Scott is a self-taught artist from South Africa, currently based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Inspired by the natural beauty of landscapes, she uses a variety of mediums to translate her vision onto paper and canvas. Having grown up in Cape Town and surrounded by an artistic family, Lezanne's passion for the visual and performance arts developed early on. Her love for travel and the outdoors further influenced her artistic practice.
Initially trained as an Occupational Therapist, Lezanne's journey as an artist began when she started exploring printmaking in Cape Town. While living in Glasgow, she discovered her affinity for watercolour and started capturing landscapes. Over time, she has expanded her repertoire to include oil paint and mixed media on paper and canvas, allowing her work to evolve between figurative and abstract expressions.
With a desire to convey the essence of a place, Lezanne employs a variety of mark-making techniques to capture visible textures and colours, providing viewers with a transportive experience to an imagined world.
Lezanne's artistic journey reached new heights when she participated in the Château d'Orquevaux Artists & Writers Residency in France in 2023. Lezanne continues to explore and push the boundaries of her artistic expression, continually seeking inspiration from African landscapes and the captivating Highlands of Scotland.
