Liwei Teng is an artist residing in Edinburgh, finding inspiration in life's subtle moments often overlooked. Liwei’s journey into the art world took an unconventional path, shaped by a background in finance. Holding a Bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Dundee and a Master's degree in finance from the University of Glasgow, she dedicated years of her career to trade & investment. However, life had different plans for her. Her perspective shifted profoundly when personal challenges arose, including the experience of raising a child with a complex medical condition and facing the trauma of witnessing her child battle for his life. It was in these moments of vulnerability and strength that her childhood dream, the dream of becoming an artist, rekindled with an intensity she could not ignore.
After years as a watercolourist, she pursued contemporary art practice and achieved a UAL Art and Design Foundation Diploma. Currently, she is pursuing her HND in Contemporary Art Practice at Edinburgh College. Her art, through painting and sculpture, explores themes of intimacy, emotions, and the delicate balance between strength and vulnerability.
As a woman and a mother, her art embraces the beauty found in vulnerability and authenticity. Drawing from her life's tapestry and the wisdom of Eastern philosophy, her work becomes a fusion of conceptual and contemporary influences, inviting viewers to contemplate life's intricate layers, fostering a connection between art and the human experience. Every piece is a silent conversation, encouraging viewers to explore their feelings within her work.
