Most of my semi-abstract landscapes are inspired by the lochs and hills that surround me in Argyll, where my studio overlooks Loch Awe. I paint in the studio rather than directly from the landscape, working intuitively with marks and layers to try to reflect my emotional response to the landscape and its conditions – landscape in memory if you like – and hopefully to invoke some of the same response in the viewer. I particularly like to combine the geometry I see in landscape with its colour and texture.
I trained at Edinburg College of Art and was elected RSW in 2001.
I have shown regularly at the annual RSW, VAS , RGI and SSA exhibitions and in numerous galleries throughout the UK including Mall Galleries (London), Thompson's Gallery (London), Scottish Gallery (Edinburgh), Frames Contemporary Gallery (Perth), Strathearn Gallery (Crieff) and Heinzel Gallery (Aberdeen).
