Dr Lynne Hocking is a handweaver and scientist living on the edge of Aberdeen city, who creates textile sculptures inspired by data. Her current sources of inspiration include genetics (DNA sequences & ancestry) and bioacoustics. She was practitioner lead for the Aural Textiles / Distributed Capabilities research project exploring data-inspired distributed design with a collective of Scottish makers, is a freelance craft project manager, and is Chair at Applied Arts Scotland. Lynne has received funding for her work from VACMA, Royal Society of Edinburgh, Creative Funding Aberdeen and Creative Scotland; secured residencies in Scotland and Mexico via the British Council's Crafting Futures programme; and has presented her work on data-inspired textile design at academic conferences and in published manuscripts.
