  • Biography
I am an illustrator and artist from Lancashire, now living in Edinburgh after graduating with a BA (Hons) in Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art. I create illustrations because the process brings me joy and I want to bring a smile to the faces of those who see and buy my work. I sell illustrated products, such as prints and greeting cards on my Etsy shop, IllustrationByMel, and I also do commissions on demand.

My illustrative practice involves a mixture of lighthearted illustrated storytelling and observational plein-air landscape paintings. I usually work traditionally with watercolour, gouache, pencil and crayon. I love going on drawing trips with my sketchbook and watercolour palette. This allows me to capture the energy and atmosphere of a scene using my loose painterly style. I also love storytelling with my illustrations and creating picture books. I have a very playful imagination and this pairs perfectly with my colourful art style.

Please note that I currently work full-time in marketing but work on my art in the evenings and on weekends.
