Landscapes and plant imagery are the subject matter of my most recent acrylic paintings and screen prints. Intrigued by the stages of the plant growth cycle and the seasons, I explore the dynamic interactions between flora and its environment. Memories and a connection to place and time inform the works which are resolved intuitively through the use of material fragments and relief support structures creating dense and intricate surfaces.
Interested in landscape fragmentation, the natural world, and the human presence within it, I aim to evoke a sense of beauty and mystery where everything is interconnected. The importance of the natural environment as subject matter for me requires that I have a more sustainable approach to the environmental impact of the materials I use.
Born in Armagh, I have lived in Edinburgh for over 40 years where I have worked as a tutor of Botanical Illustration at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and as an Art and Design teacher for Edinburgh City Council.
