I love the sea. The sea is me. 
When lying on a clifftop my consciousness shifts and sense of control wavers. I’m charged with exhilaration and fear all at once.

The edge of land and sea made me a painter.

My core essence for the love of painting as a process and expression comes from a place where different ideas meet. A visible explanation of this is ‘the cliff edge’; the sea & the land, the underworld & overworld, the danger & safety of the harbour & wider sea, the idea of travelling & home.

I love a good story. While walking through landscapes, I imagine days gone by, and project myself into the future. Finding links and different ways to open up ideas and conversations is a continual practice.

When setting about painting I let intuition lead. As in life, if it gets frustrating or boring it’s time to shake it up.
I paint in the landscape when I can. I take representational elements into consideration, but mostly I aim to capture atmosphere and emotional energy.
Back in the studio I’m always surprised that these elements are all still there within me ready to come out in the paint.

Painting is a magic freedom.
