Growing up in rural Aberdeenshire gifted me with a profound emotional connection to Landscape. My paintings capture those unique feelings, colours and patterns experienced whilst out walking in nature.

Painted newsprint collage (a by-product of cleaning my brushes), is the basis of all my painting, from the initial studies to underpinning larger works on canvas. There is so much I love about this process, be it the expressive dynamic between painterly marks and ‘shadow’ grids found within the newsprint, or the play within a surprise mark or colour.

On closer inspection, the viewer can find arbitrary words and phrases that I have deliberately masked off within the newsprint; I find poetry as well as synchronicity in these words; both in regard to place or some aspect to my life, i.e., loss. Although I am increasingly masking-off references to climate change and the destruction of our natural habitat, my artwork is primarily a celebration of nature's beauty as I aim to convey a sense of awe and joy that I experience whilst within a landscape.

I work in place specific Series: currently 'North Sea' and 'Winter Series' are both inspired by stays in my family home in Aberdeenshire. As I live and work in London, Hampstead Heath is also another never-ending source of inspiration fed by weekly walks there. I exhibit widely in London, including regular exhibitions with the Riverside Artists Group.
