I use mainly photography and ceramics to create physical objects from stories that resonate with me. I fuse photographic transfers onto handmade ceramic relics, usually broken pieces of tablets or mosaic style tiles, displayed either on a gallery wall or embedded in cobblestone streets for viewers to come upon. My photographs focus on bodily transformation in these stories, using ambiguous and abstract images of hands, feet and limbs to let the viewer piece together a story. I create a visual contemporary dialogue that can be read as factual or fictional depending on the viewer. I want to engage with the personal and social aspects of objects and artifacts to create a reimagining using the mediums of photography (contemporary) and ceramics (ancient). I'm always thinking about the weight a medium has when creating my work, the history associated with a specific medium and how that can change the meaning behind a piece. Exploring known symbols and shifting them to create something new lets us look at the meaning of symbols fluidly with no concrete answer.
