My early work primarily focused on still life painting in oils with themes involving subtle varying viewpoints, distorted perspectives and conflicting spacial relationships between objects. Lately I have been exploring compositions based on art work that I like, focussing firstly on flat and slightly raised shapes and creating my own narratives from that premise. These new works include figurative and landscape images as well as still life elements and often feature bold areas of colour or texture. I have recently completed my largest work to date an 8ftx4ft painting, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ‘Iolaire’ maritime disaster at the end of WW1. The painting is currently on display in the Lews Castle, Stornoway.
