MEET THE ARTIST

Kim Wilson is a graduate of both the University of the Arts London and Edinburgh College of Art. For Kim matter is substance and force. It is part of the endless entanglement of culture and nature, an unceasing provocation of and through one another. Her practice asserts that reality is not only social construction, but that matter matters in its mattering.

She works with materials that bring their own pre-histories and histories of transformation both natural and industrial. She has worked with wool grease, peat and bone ash, bovine gelatine and industrial grease. Reductive processes, extraction, drying and incineration are fundamental to her material choices. By hand she crushes, mixes, compresses and reconstitutes these materials producing forms that enfold that intimate material knowledge and a poetics of matter.
