Programme Announcement

Aug 20th 2022

Dear VAS Members and friends,

We wanted to update you on our programming plans for this year and beyond as we look forward to new adventures after a difficult period for the arts.

It’s been a whirlwind of a time for us since pivoting to a digital show at the end of last year, rebuilding our Annual Exhibition, REVERB, into a spectacular online event. It goes without saying that we learned a lot from the endeavour and once again thank every artist, partner and supporter who made REVERB so fun and vibrant.

Sadly, we will not be hosting an Annual Exhibition this year at the Royal Scottish Academy, due to a combination of scheduling conflicts with our programme and that of the National Galleries of Scotland. However, we are very pleased to be offering a new series of exhibitions across Scotland in the lead up to our centenary exhibition at the RSA in early 2024. This exhibition programme will be delivered alongside our funded residencies.

Announcing COMPASS - a series of exhibitions connecting the North, South, East and West of Scotland, and arguably our most ambitious project to date. This is an exciting opportunity to engage with new spaces and connect with our Members on a wider scale than we have done before.

The first of the series, NORTH, will be taking place in Inverness in November. Stay tuned for our Open Call, launching 24 August 2022! Come May 2023, we will find ourselves in Glasgow for yet another exciting exhibition. And in the autumn, we’re thrilled to be teaming up once again with the fantastic folks at Tatha Gallery.

Excitingly, our Bothy Project partnership is in its second year. We'll also be spotlighting our artists-in-residence from our From One To Another exchange residency between Cornwall and Scotland.

In addition to our exhibitions and residency opportunities we are delivering our third round of the Emergency Art Workers Support Fund (EAWSF) - launching 12 September 2022. This non-competitive fund will provide micro grants on a first-come first-served basis. More details to be released soon.

Finally, our focus is also very much on our big 100th year celebration and welcomed return to the Royal Scottish Academy in February 2024. We can’t wait to be back in this building exhibiting with you all, but until then, we're busy working our best to support you, our valued members, in as many ways as we can.

With care and solidarity,

The VAS Team
