After many years working in the applied arts and raising a family, returning to painting full time has been an exciting challenge – aiming to re-find my voice and begin expressing myself. I love the buildings of London – the shapes, colours and the effects of light.
One of the positives to come out of lockdown has been to have the incentive to walk and explore unfamiliar areas of London. They provide a rich and never-ending source of subjects. Driven by emotion, my goal in painting is to portray the feelings I have as I see things, often focusing on the wonderful patterns of light and colour.
I was born in Glasgow and raised in a small village on the west coast of Cumbria. On completing a Foundation course at Carlisle School of Art and Design, I studied Fine art painting at the Central School of Art and Design in London (BA Hons, 1st class). After graduating I settled in North London.
