I am an independent Designer-Maker, working from my lovely studio in Edinburgh for the past 10 years. I love all areas of Design but my real passion lies with Textiles and specifically Tapestry Weaving. Originally from Cheshire, England, I have called Edinburgh home for 20 years.
My work is often centred around a sense of place, a location and the relationship we have with it. This could be a big and bright city full of lights and structures reaching to the sky or a rugged and vast landscape stretching out as far as the eye can see. I make references to maps and photographs, physical snapshots of a place and a time.
I use traditional tapestry techniques to create large handwoven pieces, taking several hundred hours to complete. It’s all about colours, textures and contrasts to create the story or recreate a memory. Inspiration and design development take the form of photography, drawing, painting and paper folding. I particularly enjoy working with a client, translating their ideas and feelings into something tangible.
I also teach courses and run workshops in Design Fundamentals and Tapestry Weaving from my studio in St. Margaret's House on London Road, Edinburgh..
