My work is figurative and mostly images of women, babies and horses. I explore imagery of women in various different times and cultures, inspired by travels in Europe. I am specifically interested in the universal image of the Mother and Child in religious artefacts.
I hand build with earthenware clay, and I find the making process akin to a meditation, getting lost in the process and the pieces emerge with their own characters. I place a lot of emphasis on surface decoration, using underglazes, slips, Japanese rice paper transfers and gold lustre and colour is very important to me.
I make work ranging from jewellery, small candle fonts and wall pieces, to larger urns and figurative sculptures.
