MEET THE ARTIST

 My art is slow and systematic, much of the meaning behind the work becoming clear through the process of making itself. In this way, my practice reflects on the process of labour and working with raw materials, exploring its role in the human psyche and its impact on our built environment. In a sense I wish to move away from the culture of ready-made and fabricated art, looking instead at human endeavour and labour - particularly in regards to the physical creation of textiles. My practice to date has focussed on the formerly booming textile industry of Dundee (the city in which I live), the buildings which once housed this enterprise, and the individual activity behind it; an attempt to humanise a huge industry that feels very distant today.
