  • Biography
Nicholas J.R. White is a photographic artist whose projects are centred on uses of landscape, community and the ways in which we interact with our natural spaces. Nicholas graduated from Arts University Plymouth in 2013, with his series ‘The Militarisation of Dartmoor’, which recorded the historic military training areas of Dartmoor National Park. In 2018, Nicholas released 'Black Dots', a series exploring the UK's network of mountain bothies. The work was awarded the Royal Photographic Society Environmental Bursary and released as two limited edition zines. Since 2018, Nicholas has worked with Romanian organisation FCC, recording their efforts to establish a wilderness reserve in the Carpathian Mountains.

Through 2020-2023, Nicholas collaborated with artist Garry Fabian Miller on 'Crucible', a collection of landscape photographs of Dartmoor that aim to visualise Garry's “imagined pictures” made over the last 32 years. The work was exhibited at Fabian Millers survey show, Adore at Arnolfini Arts, Bristol, UK. This work is currently on show at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum alongside pictures from ‘The Militarisation of Dartmoor’.

In 2025, Nicholas was awarded the a-n Artist Bursary to develop a series of field recordings to accompany his photographs.
